They are the grant recipients in our #100andChange competition and are working to accelerate an end to homelessness in 75 communities in the United States. Vartan Gregorian, president of @carnegiecorp , was an extraordinary philanthropic leader. He leaves a lasting legacy of transformative grantmaking to meet the issues of our time, and we mourn his loss. From their website: "It is with great sadness that Carnegie Corporation of New York acknowledges the passing of our esteemed president, Vartan Gregorian, on April 15, 2021, in New York City at age 87...The Corporation has lost a devoted and tireless leader — an extraordinary champion of education, immigration, and international peace and security, and steward of Andrew Carnegie’s legacy. We, his colleagues, have lost a mentor, an inspiration, and, for so many, a very dear friend."

Something positive to close out #EarthDay! 🌎🌍🌏 Via @newshour : In 1980, the average U.S. county only had air quality rated as good on 59 percent of days during the year, according to EPA data. Forty years later, that number has gone up nearly 30 percentage points. The EPA defines “good air quality” when the air quality index is between 0 and 50 and air pollution poses little or no risk. *** When adjusted for population change, the data shows that California’s air had the largest improvement in quality per square mile. Hawaii had the largest decrease, partly due to air pollution caused by volcanoes. Data via @usafacts #EarthDay #EarthDay2021

Via MacArthur President @johnpalfrey . True justice will not be with us unless George Floyd—and #BreonnaTaylor, #DaunteWright, #AdamToledo, and so many others—were still alive. There’s much for us all to be done to create a more just system for all people of color and, indeed, for all of us. #GeorgeFloyd
“It’s hard to avoid the historical significance. That does add a sense of responsibility and pressure to succeed, and that’s fine with me. I like to exceed expectations.” Congratulations to the next chairwoman of the @artinstitutechi , Denise Gardner! 🎉🥂 From the @nytimes : "The longtime art collector and marketing executive Denise Gardner will become the chairwoman of the @artinstitutechi in November, perhaps the country’s first Black woman to hold that position on a major museum board...Having served for 15 years as a trustee and for five in her current role as vice chair, Gardner has championed Black artists as well as art accessibility and education for underrepresented audiences."
