“I feel colors. I like comfortable compositions and balanced energy,” says Beijing-born, London-based fashion design student Yang Yue (@a1jewel ). “I specialize in bio textiles [materials grown from live microorganisms] and do makeup and other face decorations as a hobby. Makeup is my ASMR. It’s just a way for me to release pressure.”⁣

Her inkblot-like, abstract MUA looks (@a1jewel0310 ) draw heavily on her Chinese heritage. “It is embedded in my aesthetic,” she explains. Whether Yang takes inspiration from Beijing opera grease paint makeup, bronze vessels from the ancient Chinese Warring States period, mythical creatures or real-life animals, all these references have a home in her bold and beautiful universe.⁣
